   James Carpenter Appointed Executive Director

of the American Red Cross Wayne, Ashland and Richland Chapters

The American Red Cross executive tri-county boards are pleased to announce the appointment of James Carpenter as the new executive director, effective October 17, 2011.

As executive director, Carpenter will oversee daily operations, strategic development and volunteer coordination of the three community chapters serving: Wayne, Ashland and Richland.  According to Curt Werren, CEO of the American Red Cross Stark County Chapter, the position will also focus largely on philanthropic and service development within the three counties.

Carpenter has gained experience in fundraising and non-profits with his most recent position as the Assistant Director for the United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties.  As the assistant director, Carpenter served as the leader of the 2010-2011 United Way campaign; the first campaign in many years that surpassed the campaign goal.

“I’m excited to take the fundraising skills I learned at United Way and implement them at the Red Cross,” Carpenter said.  “Having the opportunity to expand my career and to continue to serve Wayne County in addition to Ashland and Richland counties is exciting.”

The career path of Carpenter before his position at United Way included working in Media Relations and Public Relations for the Cleveland Indians, the Akron Aeros and Certified Angus Beef LLC, in Wooster.

“I’m going to use my fundraising, marketing and public relations experience to help those in need of services from the Red Cross,” Carpenter said.

Although the position as executive director will focus on fundraising for the tri-county area, Werren stated the Red Cross will continue to be the leader in responding when there is a local natural disaster or fire and will continue to educate the community about prevention and preparation for emergencies, while increasing community members’ abilities to respond through information and training.

“I’m thrilled to have James,” said Werren. “United Way should be extremely proud of the development of James, it will help him transition to the Red Cross.  He’ll be a great conduit for our mission and the community.”

Carpenter lives in West Salem, Ohio with his wife and two children.

The Richland County American Red Cross Chapter is located at 39 N. Park Street, Mansfield; the chapter number is 419-524-0311.
